Calling all Directors, Actors, and Writers.

Upstart is an 8 week development program for emerging actors, directors and writers presented by ACTRA and Jonathan Joffe Pictures and coordinated by Calgary actor Karen Ryan.

Dates:Saturday, October 12 to Saturday, November 30, 2024
Times: 10:30 am to 2:00 pm (exception for Saturday, October 19 when class will run from 2:30 to 6:00 pm)
Location: SAIT Campus, Room MD212
Cost: Member pricing: $275.00 + GST
(Members of ACTRA, DGC & WIFT-A)
Cost: Non-member pricing: $325.00 + GST

Audition/Director meeting will be held on: Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 2:30 pm at SAIT, Room MD212 

There is a limit of 8 actor participants and 4 director participants for this event. (Note: if you’ve taken this workshop before, this time the actor/scene ratio will be much smaller)

We film two scenes every Saturday, from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm over 8 weeks. Scenes are professionally edited, and a copy is given to participants for their own personal use**. Directors will direct 4 out of 8 nights (but attendance is encouraged for all 8 sessions) and actors will participate in all eight.

(** Edited scenes are not for use in demo reels. They are for personal interest only and may not be shared.)
