ALBERTA STUNT WIREWORK FOR FILM & TV:
Hosted by Rocky Mountain Film Studios with the support of ACTRA Alberta
AY Action Services Inc. presents:
Jan 12-16th 2026, Calgary AB.
Running for 5 days this workshop is designed for both experienced Stunt Performers, and those interested in starting stunt performing, to understand, experience and gain practice working with multiple stunt wire systems. Running two streams it aims to teach both the rigging and the performance elements of multiple stunt wire systems. From single line hand pull jerk-lines and single performer fly track systems to Advanced multi angle and flights with wraps and falls this workshop will employ air ratchets, performer winches, and decelerators.
Participants will be able to attend all 5 days, just one, or a few, depending on experience and capacity. All participants will be screened and vetted for their desired participation levels and AYAS personnel will have final say in who can attend and participate at what levels.
Due to the nature of risk inherent in the workshop material, and stunt work in general, this is an adult training workshop and participants must be legally responsible for their own decisions at all times during the workshops duration.
General Workshop Descriptions
Stunt Wire Work Rigger Training – Part SR1–SR5
Designed to train stunt riggers & operators, this stream will focus on the design, setup, operation and maintenance of multiple
stunt wire systems and equipment. This part of the workshops starts day one without any performers in a blank space with all the
gear and runs through 5 days constantly building and operating systems throughout. Participants who complete the full 5 days will
have over 40hrs of experience with multiple stunt rigging systems with varying body types and sizes.
Stunt Wire Work Performer Training – Part 1/2 – Introduction & Basic
This piece of the workshop is an introduction to Basic Stunt Wirework for Film and TV. The workshop will focus on the
understanding of harness fitting, style uses and wire physics against body mechanics and the performing of simple jerk-lines, wire
wraps, then move into simple ‘on wire’ combat techniques. Performers with their own harnesses will be given preference in
attending but participants without personal harnesses still will have the ability to use provided AYAS training harnesses which
will be shared between participants.
Stunt Wirework Performer Training – Part 3/4 – Intermediate & Advanced
Focusing on integrating physical performance techniques and multi-directional wire flights, participation in this workshop is for
experienced stunt performers and/or those that have completed basic wirework training courses and proven themselves at an
acceptable level to participate in this training. Air Ratchets, Performer Winches and decelerators will be used during this training.
Bringing your own harness to the workshop is expected, though there will be the option of rentals for a few participants. All
participants will participate in the de-rig at the end of day 5.
