What has been your favorite role?
So far, playing this dude I created, Frank Gypsum, has been the most fun. He’s ridiculous. I came up with the character last summer and over the last year, with the help of people far more professional than myself, we have been able to develop him into a three dimensional character. And now we’re in the process of pitching it around.
What do you do when you are not performing?
I had a long career in sports, so after retiring I went into coaching. The last year, although painful for the world, has had a silver lining for me personally. I haven’t been able to be in the gym with my team, so I was able to explore performing and creating far more earnestly.
What organization / activity are you involved with or passionate about that people would find interesting?
Last winter, we used the Frank Gypsum Character to raise money to buy new warm clothes for the people in Calgary who needed it. We aimed for 5,000$ and finished with 12,500$ worth of new warm clothes. It was stressful as heck but as the days got colder, the people of Calgary came through financially, and with empathy.
What Director would you like to work with?
In the unlikely event Mel Brooks ever decided to direct anything again, I’d just want to be in the studio, just to observe how greatness operates on a day to day basis.
What is your favorite movie and/or TV show?
How much time you got…
It’s like when people say they listen to all types of music. Really, whatever the genre, as long as it’s really well executed, chances are it’s going to be a great watch.
As a Performer, what is one thing you wish you would have known sooner?
The importance of breathing. Keeping your breath where you want it is such a valuable skill in so many scenarios in life. Also, don’t get your second Covid-19 shot right before you go on set, because you may appear to have full on Covid-19 with every symptom and scare the whole production to the point where you’re asked to leave… so I’m told.
