What has been your favorite role?
Grace Lawson in Ties That Bind. Grace starts out as the good girl who is driven to do some bad things as a result of the manipulation, she endures from the men around her. I love that James Reckseidler’s vision for this film was to showcase Alberta talent which he did both in front of and behind the camera. There’s no shortage of talented cast and crew here.
What do you do when you are not performing?
When I’m not performing, I love to write. I’m working on some screenplays as well as a book. I also love to read, watch and re-watch movies, and get out to the mountains to camp and hike.
What organization / activity are you involved with or passionate about that people would find interesting?
I’m a member of and on the board of directors for Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, a collective that exists to fuel filmmakers and connect the cinematic community. I’m a better artist when I surround myself with other creative people and there are so many amazing filmmakers at CSIF, collaborating and doing great things.
What Director would you like to work with?
Norman Jewison or Joel and Ethan Coen.
What is your favorite movie and/or TV show?
I love everything about Schitt’s Creek, but my favourite TV show of all time is probably The Jeffersons. I’ve got a long list of favourite films including The Silence of the Lambs, Dogma, Shaun of the Dead, and The Shawshank Redemption.
As a Performer, what is one thing you wish you would have known sooner?
I wish I had known to trust myself completely and put far less weight on the opinions of others. Of course, it matters to be kind and professional but, as a performer, I held myself back by worrying about what people thought of me instead of trusting that I could open up fully and follow my impulses without apology. Fear of judgement has no place in a great performance and, since I’ve learned to let go, I’m finding more and more of the moments that give me life.
